Day 2 Race Report: High Winds Force Change of Course for Seychelles Challenge Participants

The second leg of the Seychelles Challenge was abandoned this morning due to challenging weather conditions.

Race officials made the difficult decision to call off the scheduled race – an out-and-back course from Cote D’Or around Félicité and Grande Soer Islands – after south-easterly winds reached speeds of 30 knots.

With safety as the top priority, the competitive leg was replaced with a gentle sail to the picturesque Anse Lazio. Located on the northwest coast of Praslin Island, the change of plans provided teams with a welcome respite and an afternoon of team bonding on one of the planet’s most beautiful beaches.

The unscheduled stop allowed crews to experience the stunning natural beauty that makes Seychelles a premier sailing destination, and a day of high-stakes racing became an unforgettable afternoon in paradise instead.

DID YOU KNOW: Anse Lazio is considered one of the best beaches on earth, and today we learned first-hand why this gorgeous location has earned that reputation…

Pristine, Powdery White Sand: The beach features a wide crescent of soft, fine white sand that is perfect for sunbathing, walking, and relaxing. Its sheer perfection is the foundation of its world-class status.

Crystal-Clear Turquoise Water: The water at Anse Lazio is remarkably clear with a brilliant turquoise hue and incredible visibility. Its calm and warm nature makes it ideal for swimming and snorkeling among vibrant marine life.

Dramatic Natural Scenery: The beach is framed by iconic, granite boulders, smoothed over millennia, which create a stunning, prehistoric backdrop. This dramatic landscape is unique to the Seychelles and provides breathtaking photo opportunities. No wonder the Seychelles are considered one of the most photogenic destinations on earth!

Lush Tropical Surroundings: Bordered by dense vegetation, including Takamaka and palm trees, the beach offers ample natural shade and a feeling of being nestled within a pristine, untouched paradise. This lush greenery provides a beautiful contrast to the white sand and blue water.

Unspoilt Paradise: Despite its fame, Anse Lazio retains a wild and unspoiled feel. Its large size means it rarely feels crowded, allowing visitors to find their own secluded spot and soak in the serene, picture-perfect environment that Lonely Planet calls “the best in the archipelago”.
